Mental clarity refers to the sharpness of the mind and the flexibility and fluency of thought and action. The balanced brain typically has mental clarity. It thinks faster and is more lucid.
Conversely, everyone has had "brain fog" days. Sometimes the cause is illness. Sometimes there's no apparent reason.
One thing is certain. Incoordination between the sympathetic (arousal) and parasympathetic (relaxation) nervous systems creates brain fog and the very real feeling of being off-balance.
We walk across the room and stub a toe. We feel distracted and out of sorts, and we lose our cell phone and car keys. Some of us put them in the refrigerator. Our attention span is short, and our workday is long. It's like we are moving in two different directions all at once.
There are antidotes for Imbalance in the brain and nervous system that put us back into a flow state, where everything we think, do, and encounter seems like magic. It just comes together. That's a good description of peak performance, when the body and mind synchronize with each other and with the heart and spirit.
How can we make this flow state consistent - or, at least, retrievable on call? It's simple. We balance the two hemispheres of the brain. The balanced brain more closely coordinates with its central nervous system and its peripheral nervous system, sending electricity and blood flowing through the body. As the body powers up, it heals and repairs itself. Now balanced and coordinated, the body-mind clears brain fog and moves into the zone. No more stubbed toes.
The most efficient and lasting way is to practice deep, subconscious meditation. When we quiet the conscious, thinking mind and dive into the slower frequencies of alpha-theta-delta, the brain automatically comes into balance. The balanced brain, free of static, enjoys a fluid flow of thought and emotion between hemispheres: the verbal, logical, and analytical left brain synchronizing with the visual, creative, emotional, spiritual, and holistic right brain. Now in balance, the brain can optimize its functioning. It thinks faster and better.
