This light-sensitive device, clipped on the little finger, monitors the pulse rate, heart rate variability, and stress index to indicate arousal or relaxation. BVP is detected by a photoplethysmograph which transmits infrared light into the tissue. The reflected light is converted by a photoelectric transducer into a positive DC signal displayed in a time-series window or digital read-out while recording. The BVP sensor plugs into one port of the DSU.
